Course Operation: Daniel Island Club consists of two golf courses, Beresford Creek (Tom Fazio Design) and Ralston Creek (Rees Jones Design). Beresford Creek completed an extensive renovation to include bunkers (capillary concrete) and conversion of all tees, fairways and approaches to Latitude 36 Bermudagrass. Ralston Creek completed an extensive renovation in 2019 to include bunkers (capillary concrete), conversion of tees, fairways and approaches to Latitude 36 and greens renovation (TifEagle). The Practice Facilities include ten acres of maintained turf to include front and back practice tees and short game area.
Culture of Success: The Assistant in Training will be exposed to several components of succession with respect to professional development:

  • New technologies regarding golf course maintenance (computer software systems, mechanical applications, etc.)
  • Budgeting and organizational applications (excel, power point, publisher, etc.)
  • Developing a “TEAM” oriented environment
  • Career advancement to include mock interviews, resume development, etc.

Duties:  Assists in the day to day operation of the golf course. The Assistant in Training should be able to assist in the management and acclimation of a large crew of full time, part time, and seasonal employees
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations

  • An understanding of agronomics related to plant health, soil management and pesticide applications
  • An understanding and commitment to water and environmental management
  • Mathematic, budgetary and computers skills
  • Ability to operate golf course maintenance equipment in a safe manner
  • Ability to manage diverse employee population of 50+ employees and follow-up of assigned tasks
  • Able to troubleshoot problems and have an eye for details
  • Assist in promoting and enforcing safety practices in accordance with the club’s policies and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulations
  • Participates in course renovations, such as sod laying or removal, sprigging, tree and landscape projects
  • Assists in operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be in good physical condition and able to lift at least 50 lbs. and work long hours outside in heat and humidity.
  • Strongly encouraged to play golf, and have knowledge of the game, rules of golf and methods of play

Summary: We are currently looking to fill an Assistant in Training position within The Daniel Island Family of Golf Course Maintenance. Duties: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Directs and oversees daily activities, in conjunction with the Superintendent, and 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendents; Manages staff in absence of Superintendent and 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendents; Ensure work guidelines are followed; Ensures a safe and clean work environment for all employees by enforcing OSHA and EPA regulations in conjunction with the Safety Committee; Monitors staff performance with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, document necessary observations and help the Assistant Superintendent handle staff issues that arise in the Superintendent's absence; Supervises and participates in morning set-up of the golf course, monitor irrigation system and pump station; Scouts the golf course on a regular basis for insect, weed, and disease problems. Communicates with the staff about improvements in procedure, equipment, etc. Makes recommendations for improvements to procedure, equipment, etc. Assists in maintaining all necessary documentation of applications. Salary: $35,000.

Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Minimum of Associate Degree in Turfgrass Science or related field from an accredited college or working towards a degree or certificate in the Turfgrass field. BS Degree in Turfgrass Science is preferred. Total familiarity with calibration procedures for all applicable turf equipment such as sprayers and spreaders. Ability to write reports, such as job performance reviews, and attend meetings when needed. Competent on all pieces of turf equipment and have the ability to train other employees in their proper use. In conduct and deportment, the assistant should set an example for the staff. Possess a Georgia Pesticide Applicators License in Category 24 or be working towards attaining the license within 6 months.

Second Assistant

Course Operation: The Country Club of Columbus was established in 1909 by a number of local citizens who shared a fondness for golf. These founders wisely engaged the design services of Donald Ross, arguably golf's foremost architect. Ross designed a spectacular course calling for long, accurate tee shots, accurate iron play, precise handling of the short game and consistent putting. The course features a 6,515 yard par 71 layout. Its distinguishing feature is its small TifEagle greens, protected by many strategically placed bunkers. The club plays host to the Southeastern Amateur every year and is the home of the Haskins Trophy. (Like the Heisman Trophy for golf) This year, we will be hosting the GSGA 4-Ball tournament at the end of April.
Duties: Second Assistant will work closely with First Assistant to plan, direct, supervise and inspect all aspects of maintenance of the golf course. Must have a strong attention to detail and be passionate about the golf course maintenance industry. Second Assistant will make all pesticide and fertilizer applications, maintain complete and proper records and keep track of all chemical and fertilizer inventory. The candidate will be responsible for irrigation repair and troubleshooting. Candidate will participate in the daily maintenance of the golf course greens, tees, fairways, bunkers and clubhouse lawns. Must have working knowledge of all turf equipment such as mowers, rollers, tractors, etc. Other tasks and responsibilities will be assigned by the Superintendent when necessary. We are seeking Mobile Irrigation Service Technicians to service our customers along the Gulf Coast, from the Florida panhandle to Louisiana. This position provides technical support services and installation of irrigation products at our customer's locations. The ideal candidate should not only have experience with pump station operation, controls, components, irrigation control software, field controllers, radios, sprinklers, electrical wiring, hydraulic controls, and valves, but should also possess trouble shooting skills. This position interfaces directly with the customer and contributes to customer satisfaction by identifying and resolving the issue the first time and meeting and or exceeding expectations.
Location: The ideal candidates should be located somewhere along the Florida Panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi, or the Louisiana Gulf Coast.
Experience:
