Course Operation: 27-hole, private community, Bentgrass greens and Bermudagrass tees, fairways and rough.
Duties: Assist the superintendent and first assistant in crew scheduling and supervision, and participate in all aspects of golf course maintenance.
Salary: $35,000 - $39,000 (depending on prior experience).

  • Undergraduate college study in agronomy or turfgrass maintenance

Job Summary (Essential Functions)

Assists with the supervision of daily course maintenance and inspections of course conditions.

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations

  • Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and golf course construction, landscaped area maintenance work and building maintenance and improvement
  • Operate trucks and lightly motorized equipment
  • Knowledge of agronomy, turfgrass science and the rules of golf
  • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and various types of pumps and pumping systems
  • Knowledge of and the ability to perform required role in emergency situations

Job Tasks/Duties

  • Helps oversee and perform ongoing course maintenance activities
  • Completes minor repair on equipment
  • Operates and maintain equipment
  • Maintains equipment inventory
  • Performs fertilizer and pesticide applications
  • Completes necessary irrigation repair and audits
  • Trains personnel in ongoing course maintenance activities
  • Assists selection, training, supervision, scheduling and evaluate assigned personnel
  • Maintains parts and supplies inventory
  • Performs safety orientation and ongoing safety training for all departmental staff
  • Supervises Maintenance Shop and runs operations in absence of  Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
  • Attends staff meetings, as required
  • Performs other tasks and duties, as assigned

Licenses and Special Requirements

  • Pesticide Applicator’s certificate
  • Valid driver’s license

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
  • Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position
  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling

Second Assistant

Course Operation: Savannah Quarters Country Club is currently taking applications to fill the position of second assistant. Savannah Quarters C. C. is a private residential community with a Greg Norman designed golf course and is managed by Troon Golf The candidate will work closely with the Superintendent and first assistant in all phases of maintaining the golf course and club grounds. This individual will assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications, special projects, irrigation repairs and supervision of the golf maintenance staff. Individual must have a 2 or 4 year Turf Management degree or related. Applicant must be able to obtain a Georgia pesticide license within six months of employment. Benefits include Health and Dental insurance, 401K plan, Uniforms, dues paid for GCSAA and Local Associations, and golfing privileges. Course Operation: 18 Hole private facility on the northern end of Sea Island. We have Tifeagle greens, Celebration fairways, 419 roughs, and diamond zoysia and Tifgrand Tees. Course was built in 1995 by Rees Jones, and renovated in 2007 by Rees Jones again.
Duties: To assist the Superintendent in day to day operations including, but not limited to, chemical/fertilizer applications, accurate record keeping of applications, supervision of crew, and job delegations.

Mobile Irrigation Service Technician

Jerry Pate Company is the leading commercial golf & grounds equipment and irrigation distributor in the southeast.   We are seeking Mobile Irrigation Service Technicians to service our customers along the Gulf Coast, from the Florida panhandle to Louisiana. This position provides technical support services and installation of irrigation products at our customer's locations. The ideal candidate should not only have experience with pump station operation, controls, components, irrigation control software, field controllers, radios, sprinklers, electrical wiring, hydraulic controls, and valves, but should also possess trouble shooting skills. This position interfaces directly with the customer and contributes to customer satisfaction by identifying the issue, resolving the issue the first time and meeting and or exceeding expectations.
Salary: Competitive hourly rate plus commissions.

Experience:

  1. Experience in proper operation and maintenance of irrigation systems or similar electrical and hydraulic systems
  2. Experience in irrigation system and pump station diagnostics and repair including   diagnostics and troubleshooting of electronics
  3. Strong safety awareness and history of adherence to safety practices
  4. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, while working independently
  5. Highly motivated and organized with accuracy and attention to the details

Irrigation Technician

Duties: Job Purpose: Perform the operation, installation, maintenance and repair of manual, semi-automatic and automatic irrigation systems. Install, maintain and repair drainage system. Water tees, fairways, and greens. Specific Responsibilities: 1. Assist superintendent with preventative maintenance of designated system. 2. Repair irrigation system defects. 3. Assist superintendent in maintaining parts inventory. 4. Make all irrigation orders with approval. 5. Perform preventative maintenance and curative maintenance on pump stations. Operate main pumps and pump controllers. 6. Maintain daily record of activities and expenses. 7. Check irrigation system daily for leaks, lakes and dry areas. 8. Inventory irrigation parts and supplies. 9. Operate and maintain light utility vehicles and powered equipment. 10. Train maintenance employees in irrigation processes. 11. Assist in reading water meters and documenting water use. 12. Record changes in irrigation system component routings or locations on the working copy of the system as-built drawings. Education/Experience: One to three years golf course maintenance experience - Required. Knowledge and principles of electric hydraulic, pipe and fittings pump stations and record keeping. Lifting moving up to 80 pounds - Required. Understanding of agronomy, turf grass science and Rules of Golf; knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area maintenance work; ability to operate light motorized equipment - Required. Valid driver's license - Required.
Salary: $15 $18 per hour.
