Assistant Superintendent

Dunwoody Country Club
Dunwoody, GA
Course Operation:
Dunwoody Country Club is an 18-hole private country club. The club was established in 1969 and prides itself as being a family-oriented club. The golf course was designed by Willard Byrd and recently updated by Bill Bergin in 2013. The course consists of Mini Verde greens, Tifgrand tees and 419 fairways and roughs. The club will be remodeling a portion of its practice area in spring of 2019. Future improvements will include the installation of a new irrigation system as early as the winter of 2020.
Duties: The assistant superintendent will work directly with the superintendent in the management of an active private golf course. He/She will be responsible for the supervision of a 12-18 person staff. Other duties will include: scheduling, constant training, record keeping and assist with planning. Applicant must be able to manage small projects as they arise.
Salary: 50k plus, DOE.

Requirements: Applicants must have a minimum of a 2-year degree or certificate in turfgrass management or a related field. Strong agronomic skills and work ethic are required. They must have a current pesticide applicators license and at least 1-year experience as an applicator. The preferred candidate will have at least 1-2 years of experience in a supervisory position within a reputable club. They must have the communication skills necessary to keep a good working relationship with the professional staff, membership and grounds department. Ultra dwarf experience is preferred but not required. The applicant must enjoy and know the game of golf and understand that playability dictates our actions regarding maintenance.

Duties: The Assistant Superintendent position is a hands-on leadership role with the goal of preparing the individual for career advancement within the industry. This position will work closely with the Superintendent in all agronomic, financial, managerial and administrative aspects of the operation to provide a positive work environment, consistently increase expectations and improve the golf course experience. As a result, the Assistant will be provided all the tools and opportunities to increase their abilities and knowledge in preparation for the next step in their golf course management career. Basic responsibilities will include: forecasting operational objectives; Planning and implementing agronomic plans and practices; Oversee and/or perform all pesticide applications to greens, tees, fairways, roughs and natives; Managing, developing and delegating a crew of up to 20; Performing administrative tasks such as weekly scheduling, interviewing and hiring applicants, payroll, daily log and record keeping, and monthly safety meetings.
Salary: $37,000-$45,000.

Assistant Superintendent

Oak Mountain Golf Course

Course Operation:
Oak Mountain is a eighteen hole semi private Golf Course. We are a family owned business. We have Crenshaw bentgrass greens,419 Bermuda grass tees and fairways and rough. We have Rain Bird irrigation and John Deere equipment. The club is 20 years old and we have about 250 members and we do about 30,000 rounds a year.
Duties: We are looking for someone who is dependable, hardworking and eager to learn. You will be involved in all parts of the maintenance operation. Your will report to the superintendent and you will be involved with all of the maintenance employees. Your duties will be scheduling assignments, planning, chemical/fertilizer and irrigation repairs as needed. You will be responsible for hiring and managing the maintenance staff as well as keeping them motivated and making the job a safe working environment.
Salary: Depends on experience.

Requirements: Prefer 2-4 year degree in or related field. Must be able to obtain a pesticide license within 6 months. Must have bentgrass experience

Assistant Superintendent

Cherokee Town & Country Club
Atlanta, GA  

Course Operation: Cherokee Town and Country Club is looking for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at our Country Club which consists of 36 holes of championship golf set in the Chattahoochee River Basin. Both golf courses were re-designed by world renowned architect Tom Fazio. The Golf Course Agronomy Team works out of a state of the art turf care facility that sets the standard for the Green Industry. In addition to the golf courses, the Country Club features 15 acres worth of practice facilities including a driving range with four sets of tees and a three green, short game facility. The South Golf Course underwent a major renovation in 2016, converting the greens from bentgrass to Champion Ultradwarf and all of the bunkers to the Better Billy Bunker method. Both golf courses consist of Champion Ultradwarf greens, 419 fairways and roughs, TifGrand collections, and a combination of Zeon Zoysia and 419 Tees.
Duties:  Assists in the day to day operation of the golf course. The Assistant Superintendent should be able to assist in the management of a large crew of full time, part time, and seasonal employees. The Assistant Superintendent should be able to serve as the Superintendent in his absence.

Tasks/ Skills Golf Course Maintenance

  • The Assistant Superintendent will assist the Superintendent in the daily planning and supervising of the staff; supervise/apply pesticides; calibrate sprayers/spreaders; irrigation scheduling, repair, and maintenance.
  • Able to troubleshoot problems and have an eye for the details.
  • The Assistant Superintendent is expected to observe golf course conditions and make suggestions.
  • Assist in promoting and enforcing safety practices in accordance with the clubs policies and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
  • Oversees the completion or responsibilities assigned to all employees and ensures the quality of all work performed. Maintaining proper playing conditions.
  • Helps record all maintenance on the golf course.
  • Helps insure that chemicals, petroleum and other products are used, stored, and disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Maintains required records.
  • Participates in course renovations, such as sod laying or removal, sprigging, tree and landscape projects.
  • Monitor and recognize common turf disease, weeds and insects, suggest proper treatments.
  • Assists in operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems and helps maintain records.
  • Ability to operate all golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Monitor golf course irrigation needs and assist in irrigation repairs and irrigation scheduling.
  • Learn and apply the complexities of golf course setup, hole location and tee marker location for daily play and tournament golf.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work as part of a TEAM.
  • Must be in good physical condition and able to lift at least 50 lbs. and work long hours outside in heat and humidity.
  • Strongly encouraged to play golf, and have knowledge of the game, rules of golf and methods of play.

Staff Management 

  • Assist in training and instructing the golf course maintenance team on the safe operation of all equipment; comfortable speaking in front of large groups; ability to speak basic workplace Spanish.

Membership Interaction

  • The Assistant Superintendent is expected to interact with members throughout the day; always carry him or herself in a professional manor; attend a monthly Green Committee Meeting.

Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent.
Salary:
$44,000-$48,000.

Assistant Superintendent

Course Operation: Private Member owned 18 holes, established in the year 1909. Coosa Country Club hosts many major amateur tournaments, and has hosted the Georgia State Amateur Championship a record 7 times. We have Penncross bentgrass greens, Bermuda 419 tees, fairways, and roughs.
Duties: The position of Assistant Superintendent will assist in all facets of golf course maintenance while working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and other golf maintenance employees. The goal of this position is to provide Coosa CC members and guests with an unequaled golfing experience. This can only be done by keeping golf course conditions at a premium on a daily basis. This is a Management position. The candidate must display leadership skills, and lead by example. Duties include daily planning and scheduling of all work, equipment, chemical/fertilizer applications, and irrigation repairs. Along with constant supervision, and training of employees, the AGCS will be responsible for recruiting new employees, hiring, motivating, and providing an outstanding, safe working environment for our employees. The candidate should be goal oriented and seeking a career in Golf Course Management.
Salary: Salary, based on experience.

Course Operation: Hawks Ridge is a private golf club that opened in 1997 and is a Bob Cupp design. It has all Bentgrass on the greens, Zorro Zoysia on the tees, all fairways and rough is 419 Bermuda. Club also has a 9 hole par-3 course.
Duties: Assist Superintendent in the detailed manicuring of the course and surrounding grounds. The candidate will be highly involved in scheduling, chemical application, Irrigation, and staff management.
